Friday's five things: Hurricane Irene edition.

In case you haven't heard...

[Hurricane Irene's predicted path... right through Manhattan]

This big ol' Hurricane Irene is supposed to barrel up the Eastern seaboard and right through New York City as a Category 2 or Category 1. While I'm a little scared, I'm not sure how much is media hype. I am on a pretty dense block and out of the flood zone, so I think I should be fine... But still, I think my friends are going to come over and we'll hunker down through the storm together.

[With a stockpile of beer]

[And tuna... and applesauce... and other "non-perishables"... like Twinkies]

I'm planning to post pics/blog throughout the storm as long as we have power and internet... Stay tuned for tomorrow night as we watch movies, read all the magazines in my apartment, play cards, and make tuna sandwiches... It sounds like it will start Saturday around midnight and we will get the worst of it on Sunday, maybe even into Monday morning.

[I'll be reading Wither by Lauren DeStefano this weekend]

As for today, I'm excited to finally pick up my custom frames from Michaels. I will have completed apartment pics soon! I am finishing up my shopping for the storm today and having a "last supper" at Chipotle. One last indulgence before being stuck inside all weekend! Although, we may order/pick up pizza tomorrow night if we can before the storm hits... We'll see.

[Oh yeah, I bought my first flashlight yesterday. Get ready for a strenuous weekend, Brookstone Twist Light, get ready]

Another rainy spring.

I seem to always mis-estimate how busy I am going to be. I feel like I've been even busier since school ended a few weeks ago. On top of that, I've been exhausted and it is so hard to get anything done!

I need to do real grown-up things that just keep getting put off.

But instead, I have been napping, shopping, and going to happy hour. All of which are VERY IMPORTANT THINGS, mind you, just not technically on my to-do list. And of course, I've been running around in the rain all of last week, trying to do fun things, but not dressed appropriately for the AWFUL weather that's been in NYC lately.

And of course, now I am sick... Just an annoying cold. But annoying nonetheless. And I am still at work today (but fading fast).

I have also discovered pinterest- which is now eating up my life. It's just so. damn. addictive. Follow me if you are one of the fellow recent addicts!

Coming up this week:
  • Book Expo America (HUGE trade publishing convention in NYC, i.e. quiet time at work when everyone except me goes to the convention)
  • Horrible, terrible, awful construction in my apartment - more on this later
  • Summer class starts on Wednesday - ALREADY! Gross.
  • My parents arrive in NYC on Thursday morning
  • Weekend of eating out/bagels/tourisming/family junk

Snow again in the city.

My parents came in yesterday from Minneapolis to be greeted by a "monster Nor'easter." Kind of. There's only 6 inches accumulated in the city, but everything is shut down. No classes at NYU tonight, which is great for me.

We were planning a whirlwind tour of the city, but we'll have to see with the snow what we can do. First on the list for sure, though, H&H Midtown Bagel. As I posted a few weeks ago, it's the best bagel I've had. In my entire life.

We're planning on going up to the Top of the Rock, the observation deck at Rockefeller Center, then the famous Grand Central Oyster Bar later tonight (it's a Friday during Lent, so no meat!)

We'll see how this goes, but we might have to find a nice warm museum for the rest of the day!

Rain in the city.

It's raining again in Manhattan.

This makes me realize how much I need new wellies. My old J.Crew ones (which are hot pink and I adore) have cracks in them which get my feet wet. I want new Hunters. They're so classic.

And a new hooded trench. I have a trench with no hood, or a hooded raincoat with no style.

Michael Michael Kors SB Trench in Cranberry, $107 from Zappos. I'm ordering this ASAP.

Hunter Original Gloss wellies in Graphite, $115 from Zappos. Also ordering these ASAP. But I'm not sure about the sizing so I feel like I really need to try them on in stores first. Boo.
